PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- Brighton, UK-based 5-piece schrammelig post-punk /indie-pop band, Jetstream Pony “The Relativity of Wrong” third single from upcoming LP “Bowerbirds and Blue Thing” [Spinout Nuggets (UK/EU) / Shelflife Records (US)]
UK indie veterans with an electrifying gritty slice of ‘Schrammelig Post-punk’ grounded by a murky pulsing core of bulky cavernous bass lines and steady, shuffling drums against sheets of rippling jangling guitars and gloomy supportive backups, while a bewitching narrative vocal pulls the listener into a gripping drama, where layers of high angst, shame, blame, and regret take hold after two friends lose their hearts and souls to another.
- Helsinki, Finland shoegaze /dream pop band Thelma’s Dream “Wildfire” single
More than a year after the second of two quite promising singles, the Finnish trio returns to explore arcane and timeless early 4AD surreal blurs of immersive light/dark sound spectrums, rife with spellbinding ethereal pathos, stumbling on insistent melancholic sparkling guitar melodies, sudden sobs of distortion, pensive bright interludes, and a late cathartic screeching feedback, to draw out a ‘Wildfire’ that burns strongly within the heart of vibrant, emotional female vocals intensely longing with impassioned heartfelt harmonies.
- Amsterdam-based Russian alt-rock /post-rock/dream pop /shoegaze band, SPRING WINDS “Kindred Soul” the final single from the upcoming debut LP
Atmospheric Post-Rock/Shoegaze outfit intercalates sparkling crystalline arpeggios, flowing fuzzed-out riffs and shrieking tremolo flourishings into a beautiful and intimate expression of how pure love can inspire, and guide, a lost one through the darkness, encapsulated by deeply felt vibrant and authentic vocals both longing for and radiating hope.
