Weekly Shoegaze / Dreampop / Psychedelic / Indie Tips – FEBRUARY/MARCH 2024 – #09-24

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Birmingham, UK post-punk /indie rock /dream pop /shoegaze singer-songwriter Oliver Beardmore “Dead Oceans” single

Brummie musician, singer and composer keeps on refining his deeply emotional and nuanced approach to songwriting paired with a sparkling guitar work. the new single weaves an insistent push and pull of sparkling wistful arpeggios, painful ringing wails, and bursts of fuzzed-out distortion, to caress and scratch dreamy sad vocals, aching to forget the heartache while pretending to have a perfect day.

  • Munich, Germany-based  dream pop /wave-pop /shoegaze /jangle pop band founded and led by French musician JulienSomewhere Underwater “Carry On” single [AdP Records]

To be honest, I wasn’t familiar with the French-led Bavarian band active since around 2015, their latest infectious single is an obsessive, angsty, and nostalgic jangling pop jam which literally carries us on a fluctuating intricate rapid flow of twinkling guitar melodies, heart-skipping beats, and lithe pulsing bass lines to insistently wistfully chimes over dreamy heartfelt vocals, manifesting the feeling of persisting, despite past heartache.

  • US ambient /electronic /new age /dream-pop singer-songwriter (aka Pat Moon), Kate de Rosset “Heart Desire” single

Having put aside the ethereal, yet subtly noir and haunting, soundscapes, under the alias of Pat Moon, the North American electronic singer-songwriter has been embarking, for a few years now, under the nom de plume of Kate de Rosset, towards sonic paths equally aimed at dreamy and ethereal settings, but purely crystalline and organic in close harmony with the vibrations of nature, infused with enveloping evocative magnetic Enya-esque echoes. Felt like a new chapter, “Heart Desire” is a beautifully honest romantic confession of fear and regret swinging over smoothly ticking percussion patterns, swelling keyboard glows and gleaming vibrant whimsical chimes, surrounding fragile heartfelt vocals with a sense of intimacy and understanding.
