PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Minneapolis, MN alternative synth-pop artist Greg Johnson (co-writer, vocalist, and guitarist in the band Plastik Boxes), aka Greg Online “Cherished” single

A captivating slightly dark and reflective single, as he made us used to lately, from the Minneapolis artist, check his other two-piece project Plastik Boxes below, driven by steady percussions bouncing under a mesmeric nostalgic haze rippled by an intricate wobbling lush web of wistful arpeggiated guitar melodies. that insistently chime, spark, and sizzle along with sad fluting key motifs, to cradle gently intimate, heartfelt vocals, singing about living life to the fullest by feeling deep emotions with a loved one.

  • New York 5-piece indie /post-punk /dream-pop /shoegaze band Carnations “Bully” debut single

Blurry newcomer 5-piece from New York debuts with a seven-minute steady stumbling, guitar-distorted jam reminiscent of the Swirlies, builds a subtly scuzzy, hazy, bittersweet dreamscape, refracting through sun-dappled flurries of flickering strident glimmering textures and ringing wistful reverberations, that helplessly swell and stretch over sad, smooth, and vibrant vocals, anxious about feeling heavy with no direction, like a moth without a flame.

  • Saint Petersburg, Russia alternative rock /shoegaze quintet LAAVU “Вспять” single

Dark heavy, dreamy Shoegaze from the cold and snowy Saint Petersburg. The new single “Backward”, about a sensitive soul who is able to feel the thundering thoughts and burning eyes of others while trapped inside during a snow storm, builds on plodding drums, thudding steadily beneath resonant fuzzy thick gusts of guitar distortion, bubbling and bleeding into droning swollen abrasive drifts and wailing ringing ripples, to shimmer and fade at the end around sad ethereal vocals, radiating relentless pain and worry.
