PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Melbourne, Australia post-punk /retro-pop band (ex the Romy Vager Group), RVG “I Used To Love You” from upcoming sophomore album “Feral” on Fire Records

Sophomore LP on its way for Melbourne 4-piece RVG, with their appealing and exciting rock sound, joining the dots between Velvets minimalism, mid-’80s New York new wave/punk edge, ’80s British New Wave flair, OZ’s glorious rock tradition (Young&Vanda, Sunnyboys and Hoodoo Gurus), and more recent Brooklyn’s jangly inflexions, propelled by a dynamic rhythm section, augmented by an equally refined, sparkling yet sharp guitar work, centred around the heartfelt and passionate Romy Vager‘s voice, as perfectly showed by both the first two previews, where melody, energy and atmosphere whirl seamlessly.

  • US shoegaze/dream pop/dark pop five-piece from Los Angeles, Draag “Alternative Privilege” from the new “Clara Luz” EP

A band on the front-pages lately in the most popular music sites, not only hype though, the valid reasons are all there, L.A. collective Draag, over 6-tracks, delves deeper into their yesteryear influences to produce a wondrous skilfully crafted sonic distillation of synth-shrouded, guitar-layered, invigorating melodious vocal infused, shoegazey dream-pop darkly spells.

  • Münster, Germany jangle/indie-pop solo project of half of Nah, Sebastian Voss, aka The Fisherman and his Soul “Reckenfeld (feat. Tenant From Zero & Estella Rosa)” from the Double-A-side single “Home”.

Enticing new single of precious pop craftsmanship created by Sebastian Voss of Nah, with the vocal distinctions of his partner in crime, Estella and New Yorker‘s Paul Darrah, through crystalline jangly guitar melodies, that shimmer along sinuously meandering bassline, subtle horn inflexions, and dainty synth swells, heightened by Wheeler-sque echoing sweet vocal harmonies and hypnotic, alluring croon, make for a gorgeously emotional, dreamy, melancholic tune.
