• Manchester, UK indie rock /dream pop one-man band of Mathew Mills, aka Goodbye Wudaokou “Neon Lies” debut single from the upcoming first album “Mirror Skies”.
  

A mysterious single that stuck in my head all week while waiting to know something more, which reminded me of the slightly oblique yet refined 80’s British atmospheric guitar pop, with an evocative sparkling 6-string work, endearing bass, and a gripping heartfelt vocal delivery, in short, compelling songwriting, somehow with sheens of the very early Prefab Sprout or thereabouts. The song wanders over an insistent backdrop of relentless tight drum beats and humming basslines, whilst emotive guitar riffs, twinkling wistful melodies and sad glaring keyboard motifs, echo restless vocals, shifting between angst and excitement while looking for a new lover to get high and escape reality with.

Formed in the mid-90s, the Swedish quartet Loom is back on track in 2022 with a new vocalist and a multifaceted sound that oscillates between Post-punk, Goth, Synth, Indie rock, and Shoegaze. Clearly to the latter, sprinkled with skyrocketing post-rock surges, bends the new mesmerizing and immersive single, which accidentally features the band’s first original singer Monika Axelsson. Atmospheric shivering ethereal reverb-drenched distorted mists encapsulate tremoring bass lines, stumbling drum beats, and obsessive dazzling guitar strains, whilst layered dual vocals of loss and fear release guilt into a bursting new horizon.

“I don’t wanna hear you whining”, repeats Hamburg‘s refined pop craftsman frustrated with another’s crisis-laden lifestyle, over a vibrant chiming rush of obsessive pain-fueled jingle-jangle guitar weaves, steady punchy drum beats, and humming bass lines, to carry his atmospheric heartfelt tirade and angsty echoes, away.
