About to undertake their seemingly first European Tour, the Canadian band inaugurates their thrilling trip with a morbidly magnetic single that mines the obsessive and hypnotic tones, at the same time hallucinogenic and oppressive, of the early Psychedelic Furs, winding in a thick hellish droning dirge punctuated by relentless martial heavy drum beats, bleakly throbbing basslines, and compulsive ringing guitar strains, into a thick agonized smouldering brooding drama over tortured baritone vocals, spouting horror-stained historical lyrics about being “Hanged, Drawn, and Quartered.” We expect tempting sax scratches to pop up at any moment, albeit the pent-up emotional tension grabs unyielding attention until the end.
