WL//WH Weekly Post-Punk // Darkwave // Dark Synth Tips – JULY 2026 – #26-26

It’s the 9th consecutive season for Mike D (longtime editor of the WL//WH team) on-air, with Wave After Wave radio program this year relocated to the internet station DarkwaveRadio.Net Every Tuesday, Live at 22.00 (EET) / 21.00 (CET)

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Whittier, CA, three-piece goth-rock /post-punk /darkwave band Darker Places “Salem feat. guest vocals of Emily from Chateau Noir” single

California darkwavers combine goth-infused ghostly post-punk with haunting storytelling to explore the fear and hysteria surrounding the Salem Witch Trials from a historical perspective on the persecution of women. Urgent rhythms, uncanny atmospheric synth washes, and eerie sparkling guitar lines light an ominous, unsettling darkness that surrounds devotional male and Emily’s haunting vocals, turning to angst and fearful pleas amidst layers of cruel rumour-spreading whispers to elicit a sense of misunderstanding and tragedy.

  • Brussels post-punk /dark wave /minimal electronics solo project of veteran musician Raphaël Haubourdin, KINEX KINEX “Me too for the WAR” single

Belgian off-kilter electronic musician heralds the new single, a dark omen from the album to be unveiled this autumn. Encircled by a swirling, emotive backdrop of tight drum patterns, obsessive, fretful sequencers, and ominously droning synth drifts, moody male spoken words vary from aggravated to elated, then from angry to bitterly aloof, whilst engrossed in impulsive, shadowy, unguarded truths hidden behind the public filter of the mind.

  • Melbourne, Australia legendary gothic /darkwave /post-punk band formed in 1991, IKON “The Witness Tree” (7″single version) first new single from the forthcoming new singles compilation “Collective Illusion the singles 1998-2026

Legendary darkwave group from Down Under unveils the new track from the forthcoming single collection, rich with their atmospheric, amply textured, evocative dark post-punk sound, defined by echoed and reverberating ringing guitar work, alternating layers of subtle shivering abrasion with more delicate notes imbued with nuanced piercing melancholic tones around sad, foreboding baritone vocals, striving to be a better man rather than being led astray by a menacing force that divides and conquers for control.
