PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • DOUGLAS J MCCARTHY // In Memory Mix by Daniel Myer

A heartfelt tribute to the vocalist of the Electronic Body Music pioneers Nitzer Ebb, a powerful voice that will linger forever in our hearts.

  • Poznań, PL based cold wave /minimal synth analog electronics British/Polish multi-instrumentalist Vincenzo Wieczerzynski, aka Chaos International “Finale” from V/A “Stanze Fredde Vol. 2” CD [Stanze Fredde Records]

Born as a reaction to the current obscure musical times where the vacuum, the fictitious and the facade reign supreme, the dynamic Turin based Italian label arrives at its second compilation, which testifies to the creative freedom and experimental approach of a burgeoning international crop of up-and-coming bands, unified by stark, visceral, and ragged punk edges, making lo-fi, minimal synth wave on bygone analog equipment, to emphasize a seamless interconnection between the ’80s past heritage and the present moment. An electrifying 17-track collection piled high with little heartfelt, intriguing synth-laden gems, all to be discovered and danced along to.

  • Los Angeles-based EBM /industrial /darkwave /dark electropop duo of Rosselinni and Anton Floriano, aka Die Sexual “Magic Never Dies” single

A dark, sensual, high-energy combination of sleek modern electronic production and teasing vocalizations, through a snappy lashing drum programming, churning bass throbs and eerie synth swirls, sends lush, sultry, electro body shivers over black leather-clad dancefloor worship while wicked whispers, alluring moans, and breathy seductive vocals compel a devotional night of flesh and passion.

  • Nantes, France art rock /no wave /post-punk band Moleskine “Non Sense” from the cassette album “Affective Experience Of Urban Space” [Urticaria Records / Chrüsimüsi Records]

Following a brilliant sax-strewn 4-track EP from a couple of years back, the Breton outfit returns with the angular yet melodic, minimalistic take on prickly no wave/post-punk and brilliantly weird art-rock with an alluring groovy, funky edge. The first debut LP preview rolls elastic sonorous bass pulses and vibrant drum beats, to underpin sharp, spindly guitar riffs that obsessively pierce and stretch out against a vocal interplay of elated, aloof female spoken words and bored baritone responses, creating a non-sensical conversation where one person asks another to come with them to get lost.
