PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • Madrid-based darkwave /post-punk /coldwave music project, Dunkelwald “Kylmä” first single from an upcoming LP [Polypiel Records]

Sombre and ominous synth-inflected Darkwave from the Spanish act, driven by hypnotic pulverizing beats along with rumbling, rolling bass lines and epically icy swirling synth strains, wraps vulnerable downtrodden vocals in a cloak of safe introspective darkness, to heal from the fear of being cut by another’s pain.

  • Paris-based Goth /New Beat /Industrial /Coldwave/Techno /Darkwave artist (aka Lorako), Forbidden Desires “Body Lies Awake” from the upcoming “Burning Elegy” EP [META MOTO]

Parisian artist delivers “a dive where the gothic atmosphere collides with industrial force.” Haunted by the tragedy of human existence, “Body Lies Awake” ignites a stark simmering flow of skipping drum kicks, repeatedly thumping along, cut by mechanical clattering beats and droning cavernous low ends, slowly wrapped by intervals of chilly synth washes, to conjure further dramatic layers into the dismal doomy ambience that looms across depressed, colourless vocals, turning to emotive, pain-filled spoken words struggling to withstand the brutal nature of the world.

  • Oakland, CA-based goth /industrial /post-punk /synthwave duo, 55CASTLES “CRASHOUT MANIFESTO” single

A dynamic alchemy of Hip-Hop/Industrial rhythms and swirling Synth-Wave with Goth tinges unleashes a gritty vocal interplay that blends frustrated chants with sinister falling cries, uplifting supports, and wicked echoes, rambling sonorously on a high-energy rhythmic flurry of hypnotic punching beats, and relentlessly jolting and ominously chugging bass lines, amid drilling salvos of kick drum syncopation, to express how the lack of mercy and devotion in the world causes one to feel nothing and crash into darkness and death.
