WL//WH Weekly Post-Punk / Darkwave / Dark Synth Tips

• Kyiv, Ukraine darkwave /industrial dance /synth-pop project of Stan Przhegodsky, aka Black Light District “California Reaper” from the work in progress second album “Black Light District II”                                              

Ukrainian electronic musician releases cinematic and hypnotic instrumental jams since the end of 2020 exploring multifaceted shades of dark sounds spanning from Industrial, Goth, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Italo, Body Music and beyond, I often used to start a playlist with. I really enjoyed his last post-punk/coldwave inflected cuts with a deft mix of organic and synthetic, steady pounding beats and hypnotic kicks to propel haunted glistening knits of shimmering guitar pain and icy bright wistful synth flows, spreading obsessive anxieties over a rumbling undertow of ominously snaky bass pulse gloom to extract hidden dangers and toxic feelings from dwindling memories of dread.

North Carolina‘s couple increasingly delivers, single by single, thrilling synth-laden darkwave. Punchy beats and ominously pulsing bassline drive danger and allure in whimsical and wandering glaring synth wafts laced with love and hate to carry fearful, anxious vocals into a nihilistic “Game of Trust” where lust and deception spawn a passion-fuelled doomed fate. We absolutely get a buzz out of this dramatic dangerous game of darkwave fantasy.

From the just dropped brilliant eclectic Mexican label No Devotion Records‘ digital collection of previously (or soon to be) released, unreleased tracks and remixes from an eclectic bunch of underground dark electronic and post-punk international artists in which seemingly stands out the hard-hitting club-ready Twin Tribe remix of Texan industrial artist Curse Mackey, albeit not to be overlooked by the ‘doom and gloom” version of the 1987 anthemic French Coldwave classic from dual-bass darkwave/post-punk duo through a relentless dirgier concoction of chunky and murky warbling low end danger and agonizing contorted vocalizations drowning in melancholic obsessions of nostalgic stabbing fear.
