Hattiesburg DIY one-man band’s first excerpt from the upcoming EP leaves aside the usual shoegaze-like walls of guitar sound we’ve become accustomed to, almost seems to bridge his other project, Blue Livingroom, reissued last year, delivering an enveloping and reflective 80s-tinged synth-heavy gloomy romanticism. Glowing drapes of desolate synths swirl and drift hopelessly throughout, while pierced by glistening, plaintive guitar melodies, reflecting shadowy, brooding moods of downcast vocals, painfully drenched in feelings of betrayal.

Portland‘s atmospheric synth-laden dark post-punk four-piece heralds their 4th LP with the mesmerising, emotionally charged “Burdens”. A propulsive, heart-skipping rhythm section jerks with sorrowful, glowing synth-laced shadows, while a sparkling guitar draws frantic, weeping tones that mirror achingly and swell excruciatingly against heartbroken female vocals mourning a love growing cold.

The French label Bella Ursa Recordings, curated by Letherique, returns after a sabbatical year with one of its eclectic, often inspirational, genre-defying tape compilations. The striking opener, “My Revenge”, commands our attention straightaway: a pulsating and smacking industrial-flecked slice of seething Darkwave hypnotism provokes a creepy, tightly wound slow-slung vibe, whipped by both crackling and thumping, stark percussions, throbbing incessantly with obsessive droning and rustling bottom ends, to build a cold, torturous hellscape around sweetly sinister male vocals, bathing in the meanness of revenge with smug, aroused devotion.
