Weekly Electronic Music Tips // OCTOBER #41-24

Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre, London,1968

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • REMASURI // DAVE Festival DJ Contest- Platz.1

Fresh from winning a local DJ prize, here is the high-energy and uplifting retro/modern triumphant set from our favorite Euro-Disco DJ from Leipzig.

  • Brussels, Belgium ambient /drum and bass /bass /halftime /dub /electronic collective The Untouchables – “Temporal Rift” off V/A “Hyaku | 百 |” 100th vinyl release compilation LP 12″ [Samurai Music]

As a big sucker for the Drum & Bass sound since its onset in the mid-90s, even if I’m not as into it as before, I always followed closely Berlin-based Samurai Music and its sub-labels for its unique progressive attitude. Born in 2007 as the creative brainchild of New Zeleader producer Geoff Wright, aka DJ Presha, the ever-evolving, proudly DIY, vinyl-laced imprint has pushed the boundaries of the Drum and Bass sound for almost 17 years, constantly enhanced with an endless gamut of multifaceted sonic leanings. The 3×12″ collection “Hyaku” assembles a fine gang of the label’s affiliated producers to celebrate the 100th Vinyl release. Brussels-based duo open the dances in their usual superb dark atmospheric style with a halftime, dubwise roller that bounces with relentless hypnotic intensity on sharp metallic, echoing percussions and deep pulsing bass grooves.

  • Italian dark ambient /industrial /EBM /techno /post-punk /dark electronics DJ-producer, Rynzler – “Prometeo” off “The First Genesis” EP [Glanz + Elend]

Venice-based producer dissects and assembles with equally harsh and glacial mechanisms, alienating dark atmospherics, sinister EBM energy, industrial percussive clangour and corrosive hard techno cloaked in a broody post-punk aesthetic. “Prometeo” provokes the hard-hitting stomp of clanking drum kicks to pound with unemotional ruthless starkness alongside drilling low-end loops, to shake the dancefloor into a daze of disorienting hypnosis.

  • Chengdu, China ambient /glitch /bass /breaks /percussive /psych /downtempo /electronic DJ-producer Heling – “Chaos Among The Peaches” from upcoming V/A “INTL.PDCOMP003” second instalment of the 5th Birthday compilation series LP [Pressure Dome]

Let’s get acquainted with the mind-melting vivid bind of synthetic and organic sounds from the Chinese producer with an entrancing stuttering and crackling evolving hodge-podge of crisp hypnotic percussive patterns along with deep velvety bass pulses, and heady intersecting lines and shapes of whirring echoes, hissing frequencies, exotic strings, aquatic ripples, and synth swells to stir and expand your imagination.
