PICKS OF THE WEEK:
- CHP Mix Sessions [027] – ERRORBEAUTY
London-based DJ-producer and ARKADA label head of Bulgarian origin, Errorbeauty, since her inception in 2003, has increasingly delved into electronic music’s intricately textured soundscapes – more specifically the broken, aggressive shades of Detroit Electro and Techno. Her work continues to evolve and offers listeners a distinct reflection of Motor City’s relationship with the genre whilst demonstrating her own unique perspective of Electro, which brought her four times to the legendary club Tresor.
- London-based electronic duo of DJs, artists and longtime NTS Radio residents Elaine Tierney and Jack Rollo, Time Is Away – “Turn on Arabic radio oscura” (Muslimgauze & SSIEGE edit) Limited Edition 10″ dubplate charity single [Knekelhuis]
An “edit that blends the works of Bryn Jones‘ Muslimgauze and Stefano Galli‘s SSIEGE to create a new contextualisation of both worlds”. Softly glides over minimalistic dubby percussive loops from the former, punctuated by dimly bright pulsing synth ethereality from the latter, whilst the pair sublimely trim through their distinctive whispered intimate spoken words, tape hisses, whirring frequencies and found sounds with mesmerizing and heartwarming effects. All profits will be donated to the Delia Arts Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting children and musicians in Gaza.
- Russian ambient /acid /electro producer Semaa – “Basic Program” from upcoming V/A “I” compilation [traxual]
From the incoming sampler to celebrate 1 year of the traxual label, Russian young producer with a dark, emotive, dynamic, space-gazing Detroit-esque Electro workout defined by punchy and crispy drum programming, acidic throbbing squelches, ghetto-style vocal clips, and swirling icy-bright uncanny strings.
- Miami, FL ambient /experimental /bass /krautrock /proto-techno /dub /library /polyrhythmic /dancehall /Latin /electronic collaboration between long-time friends and musical cohorts, Pablo Arrangoiz (El Gusano, DJ Fitness) and Jonathan Trujillo (Jonny From Space), Crespi Drum Syndicate “Broken Bread” from the upcoming first album “Beats” [Isla]
“Inspired by the proto-techno of ’60s and ’70s Italian library music, motorik kraut grooves, Latin dance music, orchestral percussion pieces, dancehall riddims, and dub engineering”, Miami duo concoct a harmonious and surreal cacophony over a crackling bed of rattling and tinny percussive, polyrhythmic patterns, sultry bassline grooves, tinkling ripples, discordant droning resonances, and exotic vocal clips, with intricate constructive interaction of multilayered sounds that straddle effortlessly between rationality and physicality, chilliness and warmth with intriguing results.
