Experienced “amateur” DJ from Grenoble, France, since the early 90s, Tallman returned behind the desks in the mid-2010s after a long hiatus to serve up “his own interpretation of Indie Dance, mixbags of Dark Disco, Electro and Darksynth layered with cinematic (he’s a sucker for horror movies’ soundtracks) and psychedelic overtones, and a punkish approach to the mix“. “The darker, the better” according to our man.

I was living in a share house in  South London at the time, and I remember the “decorating house parties or squats with mind-blowing installations and wholly idiosyncratic design”, it was also the first time I experienced the chill-out rooms, adjacent to the main concert/DJ ones, all was so new and electrifying, I recall, like a dream, a sort of murky industrial block where you had to take an elevator to get in, I should still own its leaflets somewhere. The first-ever illustrated compendium documenting the sights and sounds of South London’s seminal Telepathic Fish ambient parties throughout the 90s, music-wise defines the boundless trance-inducing fusion, nurtured by Eno/Hassell’s fourth world minimalistic visions and cosmic-inflected Krautrock explorations, of ambient, deep house-techno, dub, exotic, world and psychedelic music, that travels deep into the most visceral, transcendental and ecstatic essence of electronics.

In this heartfelt brief journey down memory lane, the British duo Swayzak‘s 1998 first album, “Snowboarding in Argentina”, holds a prominent place in my long listening experience. I also used to buy most of the 12″s by post directly from their DIY label, as was usual, carefully hiding money in the envelopes. The pair have unveiled a long-lost 15-minute-long DAT recording from 1999, that encompasses all the blueprint melancholic deepness of the duo’s smooth, energetic, and deeply melodic, sumptuous house and techno sound.

Like the finest Italian electronic producer, except for the studio activity not my expertise, 20 years ago I was often renting cheap apartments, normal facts at those times, in Berlin-Kreuzberg next to Hardwax shop’s endless parties. Aside from the Tresor’s old location, it’s difficult to be more precise due to the continuous frenzied changes of venue, mostly placed in abandoned factories and spaces, but the creative heady clash between the East and West cultures was unique and unfortunately didn’t last long, heralded by the early huge shopping malls right in the Alexander and, Potsdamer Platzs. The Rome-Berlin connection revitalises digitally a 9-minute immersion into deep, expansive, acidic-tinged Techno territories shrouded in warm spacey pads, to stimulate both mesmeric dances and cathartic mental states.
