Weekly Electronic Music Tips // JULY 2025 #29-25

PICKS OF THE WEEK:

  • PULSAR 012 | PLANT43

Highly respected longtime staple of the Techno and Electro scene since the 90s, building a discography totaling 10 albums and a slew of 12”s on respected scene mainstays CPU, Frustrated Funk, Semantica, Shipwrec, Cultivated Electronics and Trust, the British producer, live act, DJ, and Plant43 Recordings label owner Emile Facey AKA Plant43 delivers the sinewy and flowing mesmerising set, he’s renowned for.

  • Mongrando, Italian ambient /IDM /acid /bass /tribal /techno /leftfield /breaks producer and Art-Aud and Secret Rave founder, Kreggo – “Labi Inside (Gilb’R Remix)” from “Altro Mood” EP 12″ [Oath]

Since the mid-90s, along with IDM and minimal deep techno, I used to dig with a certain impatience through every release coming from France, deeply fascinated me with a startling fusion of freaky disco grooves, wonky sample-based filter House and dizzying Jazzy flair. Those were the times of Etienne De Crecy’s 4×10″ Super Discount, Alex Gopher, Philippe Zdar’s Motorbass, the cult labels from the Daft Punk galaxy: Crydamoure, Scratché, Roulè, not to mention the sleek and stylish Laurent Garnier’s F Communications. One of the most unrestrained imaginative electronic explorers is undoubtedly Gilb’R (also one half of Château Flight with I:Cube) and his equally unpredictable Versatile Records, seamlessly incorporating plenty of sound elements, amid further cosmic, world music and hiphop leanings. Amazingly, I found him by chance remixing the opening track of the much younger producer, and my fellow countryman Kreggo, united by the same trailblazing attitude to ceaselessly push the sonic boundaries in a cohesive, visionary and multifaceted way. Gusty whirlwinds of obsessively cyclical tinkly and glitchy glowing strains, blended with deep sidereal atmospheric expansions, open perception and insight through a highly intense and mesmeric sensorial journey.

  • Hungarian ambient /post-jazz /experimental /drum & bass DJ-producer Peter Ivanyi, aka Ghost Warrior “Nameless Streets” single

Pacey, atmospheric, jazz-informed 90s tinged drum & bass with intricate, crisp and sharp drum patterns, menacing droning bass throbs and alienating chilly strings, to err within the hypnotic nocturnal shades of an intriguing, mysterious sonic spectrum.

  • Early ’90s Jason Robert Greenhalgh‘s UK drum & bass/jungle classic, Q Project – “Champion Sound (L-Vis 1990 Edit)”

Talking about the old school dark sides of Drum & Bass, here is the buzzy and wicked stabbing edit by UK DJ-producer L-Vis 1990 of the original and best mix from the legendary timeless 1993 classic, of which, among many other reworks, I recall a memorable chilling remix by 31 Records head Doc Scott.
