SUNDL, the Vienna-based solo project of musician and producer Christian Sundl, who has been an active member, since the early 2000s, of the Austrian capital’s underground music scene as the drummer of Lady Lynch and Black Fox Dance, shares a DIY Official Video for “Sy4l”, the closing track on his 9-song fifth album “Goth Housing,” just released on Cassette and Digital by Cut Surface and Wilhelm show me the Major Label, WL//WH is pleased to Premiere.
Music for souls who cite the smell of basement vaults as their relationship status. Sundl calls it Goth House, and not without reason. On the one hand: sweaty euphoria, that manic sense of togetherness at 4:12 a.m. On the other: the noble pallor, the David Lynch curtain of the world. For Sundl, this is not a sham marriage. Rather, it is a passionate affair in the Père Lachaise cemetery, where optimism is buried in black turtlenecks.

“Goth Housing” is probably not an album about darkness at all, but rather about consistency. About going ahead with something without having to constantly comment on it. So Sundl continues to build. Room by room. And it’s only later that you realize you’ve long since moved in.

Drawing from Techno, Touse, Ambient, and Electronica, Sundl weaves a techno-infused, analog electronic tapestry that is as intricate as it is intriguing. “Sy4l” orchestrates a consistent, nervy interweaving roll of hypnotic punchy beats, crispy claps, thudding kicks, and an obsessive clattering lead synth loop, to flow through intervals of tubular stabs, doomy, prowling bass drones, and sinister rushing swells, come and go in chilly waves of haunting atmospherics.
The Official Video, by Christian Sundl himself, for “Sy4l” looks like a black and white still shot of SUNDL, who is wearing a classic black suit, whilst posed in three different locations of a parlor room. Upon closer inspection, you can see that the person sitting next to the keyboard is an alive image with a hand barely moving atop the keyboard in sync with the off-kilter stabs of the soundtrack.
SUNDL’s fifth album, “Goth Housing,“ is out now, in Cassette & Digital formats, via CUT SURFACE & Wilhelm Show Me The Major Label.
The album release show will take place at Lucia Vienna on 23.01.26 with special guests The Damski and rent + Eklextasy.
Keep up with SUNDL:
