West Yorkshire based noise-rock, art-punk, post-punk or whatever you want to tag it, English DIY group Gad Whip, fronted by ‘ranter in chief’ Pete F. Davies, have just dropped the music video, WL//WH is pleased to premiere, for the spiky and corrosive tirade of “Desk Gate”, the opening track taken from the upcoming self-released sophomore album “Fanimal Arms” due out, Digital and Limited x 100 copies 12” black vinyl / full ‘kraft’ sleeve (pre-order on Bandcamp), on 16th October 2020.
Sarcastic spoken word vocals comment on random thoughts and ideas in an exuberant, mercurial fashion, as heavy abrasive, jagged guitar riffs combined with low throbbing bassline and tight, hard-hitting drum beats, alternate with a creepy wind-up box’s twinkling notes, to form a quirky and emotional rant against the machine.
Slice of life lyrics flow in a bizarre stream of consciousness lit in witty literary references, droll rhetorical questions, and surreal realizations.
The DIY visuals capture a colourful daydream illustrated on top of a dreary overhead crawlspace during the COVID19 lockdown of 2020. Monarch skies overlay a drab tile ceiling, fluttering butterflies into an unknown galaxy that flashes ominously in sync with the moody soundtrack. Electric blue voltage haloes a black hole sun swirling circular currents around an animated colony of vampire bats in a wicked flight from an otherworldly curtain call of apocalyptic doom.
