Liepzig based pop experimentalists Fun Fare, comprised of Friedrich Günther, Julia Boehme, Joseph Heinze and Jakob Zander, are back with the new video for “Chinese Walls”,taken from last February second brilliant album “Trifles & Events Are Your Concern” via independent Berlin‘s label Späti Palace.
With their eclectic, enticing melding of post-punk urgency and krautrock introspection with new wave and psych undertones, the band is hardly monotone, always surprising for freshness and imagination.
The adventurous and whimsical “Chinese Walls” is a quirky and jittery new wave sliver, interspersed with infectious harmonies and contagious energy, in a woozy cocktail of serpentine, warbling melodic basslines, motorik drumbeats, squealing organ, and hypnotic grumbling guitar. The amusing boy/girl vocalizations teeter between detached, laconic recitation and euphoric exaggerated mockery encapsulated by an absurd air of jovial pent-up resentment and anguish. The euphoric and cynical atmosphere suddenly surge in intensity fuelled by menacingly repeating throbs of bass, fast pacing drums, ominous swathes of keyboards and dissonant and clanging strains of guitars unfurl in a restrained tension-filled Krautrock-infused finale.
