WL//WH Premiere LAST TOURIST
Waiting to reveal their soon to be dropped new single and to let us know about how their, hitherto intriguing, multifaceted sound is evolving, Leeds, UK based dark wave electronic shoegaze 3-piece, LAST TOURIST, comprised by John Wellby (guitar, vocals, programming), Adam Simpson (synths, programming, backing vocals), and Jason Booth (bass guitar, bass synth), share the music video, WL//WH is pleased to premiere, for the track “Public Service”, taken from last year’s self-released double A-Side 7″ vinyl single “Public Service / Are We Just Algorithms?”.
The band’s more powerful and urgent song to date, “Public Service” deals with Sign of the Times lyrics that invoke social anxiety, alienation, and isolation to induce physical compliance and psychological acceptance of a virtual, mindless existence.
High energy punchy drum beats plough disruptive tendencies through wiggly pulsing bassline, droning stabbing guitar melodies, icy airy synth swathes and detached, distressed male vocals to draw a dreamy, anxious surreality of post-societal illusion.
A hip video, created by Andy Needle, enacts a romantic plot while a spinning kaleidoscopic backdrop merges man/woman, black/white, and human/creature into an ill-defined, unattainable logo of modern dystopic dreams. Bipolar contrasts cast in neon red and blue dimensions time-lapse universal symbols through underground tunnels of dim-lit dwellings to form a subconscious vision of suggestive themes. Violence, fear, and injustice splice abstract fragments of identity into unstable realities, where urban landscapes warp with a surreal underwater colony to induce mind-altering expansions of hypnotic bliss.
