WL//WH Video of the Day: VELATINE “Whisper Park”

Video Of The Day  VELATINE

Velatine, the DIY Melbourne, Australia-based Goth-influenced Darkwave duo of Loki Lockwood & Holly Purnell, drops a video for “Whisper Park”, a song about how shallow self-talk can turn into a destructive spiral of racing thoughts that makes it difficult to focus and think.

The two-piece work draws from the early Gothic movement’s willingness to confront uncomfortable ideas with little regard to outside influence. Velatine reshapes that lineage using modern recording techniques and visuals.

A dire, raw, haunting surrounding of tensely tottering and rattling percussions places an uneasy foundation for eerie, icy synth glows and rambling splinters of jagged, crunchy guitar stabs that zap and slice through powerful, tormented female vocals, desperately longing to be taken out of a disturbing headspace called “Whisper Park.”

Now established as a live act, Velatine presents an immersive audiovisual performance. Each song is paired with its own colour palette and visual motif, projected behind the band to create a shifting emotional environment. The result is a show that unfolds as a sequence of moods rather than a setlist — deliberate, atmospheric, and quietly confrontational.

The paired DIY visuals set a Gothic black-clad Velatine on a sofa under strategic editing and strobe lighting to shift time and space in a disjointed manner. Holly delivers a soul-stirring emotional performance cast in restlessness and despair, whilst a spectral Loki appears and then disappears under a cloak of heavy shadows.
