Video Of The Day Vast Asteroid
Hailing from Los Angeles, Vast Asteroid is a supergroup of sorts, comprised of The Warlocks bassist Mimi Star, seminal UK punk-rock band Slaughter And The Dogs drummer Mark Reback, and singer and guitarist James Poulos. Following the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the band returns with the quick and enduring new single, ‘Champagne Ambassadors’, a song of accurate perspective and the coming together as a sort of summation of all the band’s been through, transcending instantly recognizable moods as something nature often does with its grandeur and subtlety.
Vast Asteroid is among the sharpest and most exciting ambassadors of the current wave shoegaze space rock bands from L.A. Practising with the wall-of-fuzz since 2016 (Half Apart EP) and with a full-length release of tremendous inspiration and sound (S/T, 2017), the trio from the city of angels returns with another striking specimen of their intentions. ‘Champagne Ambassadors’ single was released earlier on June 26 via the GR-based independent label Thinkbabymusic Collective and is perhaps the song to precede an upcoming record in the year. Here the Asteroids present a less thick and impervious sonic wall as in their previous releases but without losing at all any of their trademark sonic components they offer another sight of their beautiful spacegaze system. For once again they worked with Andy Freeman at Rancho De La Luna Studio (CA) and it all sounds as the whole team is absolutely aligned to their purpose; the Californian shoegaze soundings with love and care to the band’s artistic singularity. The new track is accompanied by a video created by Christian Stephen, who drew inspiration from both the pandemic quarantine and the song’s lyrical content.
