WL//WH Video Of The Day: VARSOVIE “Artefacts” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day  Varsovie

Veteran French dark post-punkers from Grenoble, Varsovie, made up of Arnault Destal (drums, lyrics, music, art direction) and Grégory Catherina (vocals, guitars, bass, music), follow the release of their fifth, more straightforward, rawer and introspective, studio album,  “Pression à froid”, via Icy Cold records, with an Official Video by Lea Lotz, starring Naomi Delille, for the fourth song “Artefacts”.

The track evokes the strategems put in place to drown out the idea of the end, to trick the passage of time, to fill our lives with false solutions, and the way we deviate from our deep objectives for fear of failure.

“Artefacts” constructs a cold stark apocalyptic atmosphere that meanders ungently over unceasing pounding drum beats, and ominously throbbing and humming bass lines, pierced by dire obsessive searing guitar strains, to underlie tense, ominous vocal angst, observing the incessant distractions followed by another whilst hoping to avoid rejection.

Nostalgic horror movie-style visuals by Lea Lotz capture the aimless wanderings of a lost soul played by Naomi Delille, whose merciless mental pain suggests the inner conflict of the lyrical transition scenes. A search for answers along the dark lonely city streets opens subconscious portals where suggestive symbols, shapeshifting shadows, and altered flows of motion pull the viewer into the haunting mindset of indecision and dread.
