WL//WH Video Of The Day: THE SILENT BOYS “Christine”

Video Of The Day   THE SILENT BOYS

One of the best-kept secrets of the Indie Pop hemisphere, for years shrouded in obscurity, despite eight albums under their belt, The Silent Boys were stalwarts of the Richmond, Virginia alternative music scene from the mid-80s until 1991, playing constantly in the local live circuit. Guitarist, frontman, and composer Wallace Dietz reformed the group in 1999, after the release of several The Silent Boys songs on various independent record labels (Firestation /Kindercore /Tweenet), to resume with uncommon dedication, the rich and timeless path of the guitar-pop heritage from the 80s, of which they were a loyal part, molded by trailblazer labels such as Postcard, Creation, Subway, Factory and Sarah Records, as well as treasured bands such as Feelies, The Church, REM, Felt, The Bats, the Smiths, the Go-Betweens to name a few.

Now, nearly 40 years since their inception, The Silent Boys, made up of Wallace Dietz (guitar, vocals), John Suchocki (guitar, vocals), Michael Click (bass), and John Morand (drums), are ready to drop their 8th album, “Sand To Pearls, Coal To Diamonds” scheduled for release on November 4, 2022, via Too Good To Be True Records, teased by a candid, atmospheric DIY video for the first single “Christine”

A haunting Brighter-esque love song that unfurls through an intricate, emotional, and seemingly carefree weaving of shimmery strums and crackling chiming guitars, nervously piercing a softly burbling bassline and light-peppered beats, to create a cozy, lovelorn reverie around angsty heartfelt vocal harmonies, longing and brooding in obsessive adoration for the lovely, mysterious Christine.

A gorgeous scenic video shot on location at Buckroe Beach in Hampton, VA, captures an introspective walk down the seashore under a doom-laden grey sky to evoke conflicting feelings of freedom and gloom. Slivers of hope peek from beneath a shaded smile whilst gusty breezes and churning seas alternate with high-energy performance clips from Sound Of Music Studios in Richmond, VA, to sync seamlessly with the nostalgic, timeless moods of the soundtrack.

The Silent Boys‘ 8th LP, “Sand To Pearls, Coal To Diamonds” is due to be released, in ltd. CD & Digital formats, on November 4, 2022, via Brest based independent label Too Good To Be True Records, already on pre-order on the label’s Bandcamp. In the meantime, the band has just unveiled an equally endearing new track “Driftwood”
