The Berlin-based Post Punk / New Wave four-piece The Maze Cab, formed in 2020 around the multi-instrumentalist Gernot Pohle of the new wave band The Wars, along with Katharina Lange Reiber (vocals, key, trombone), Ralf Liebchen (bass, programming), and Tilman Berg (drums), releases an Official Video for last July’s single “The Path We Take”.
“The Path We Take” unravels an edgy, moody and ghostly tapestry ignited by urgent glistening guitar melodies and obsessive pluckings, to weave sharp pain through a restless pulsing of anxious bass lines and slapping syncopated drum beats, swaying between a menacing ferocity and nervous introspection, whilst feathery male/female vocals radiate and then fall, soaked in angst and gloom, “I’m afraid the light will make me blind.”
In the visuals, The Maze Cab stands back to back against a dark full moon backdrop to evoke the reflection of the lyrics. Vast barren landscapes combine with live performance footage, fast-moving overlays, and symbolic lights and shadows to sync with the momentum of the soundtrack.
