WL//WH Video Of The Day The Lonesomes
Gold Coast, Australia-based Post Punk outfit The Lonesomes have dropped their new single, “Locket”, along with the accompanied DIY Official Music Video, building anticipation for the band’s incoming East Coast Tour beginning on October 11.
The three-piece, made of Harley Jones (bass), Matt Callan (vocals, drums), and Kesh Tumahai (guitar), pushes the edges of their 80s-tinged typical post-punk sound, a raw fusion of instrumental physicality and visceral emotionality, with unpredictable textural leanings pulled from EDM, drum and bass (DnB), and hip-hop.
From the outset “Locket” conjures up a depressed angsty vibe gliding on the quiet and loud lingering strain of ceaselessly busy shifting drum beats and sullen chugging bass lines, cut through by introspective intermissions of forlorn icy keyboard chords, massively swaying into heavy crashing outbursts of scorching riffs with downtrodden vocals shifting to anger about the heartless condition of humankind.
The deftly self-released visuals blend imagery of The Lonesomes wandering around and hanging out with rambunctious performance shots to sync with the moody momentum of the soundtrack. At the 3:00 minute mark a thought provoking synthetic transition fuses with a blue, night light disconnection, unveiling modern man’s virtual reality of delusional nihilism.
