Video Of The Day Swansea Sound
UK indie-pop outfit Swansea Sound stand up to the Corporate Music Industry System with a DIY video, recorded in isolation using smartphones and green screen technology, for the enlightening and anthemic new third single “Indies of the World”, with an aim to “revitalize the Global Pop Underground.”
Friends since the longstanding collaboration in the Pooh Sticks, over the late-80s-mid-90s period, stalwarts of British indie scene, Hue Williams (Dumb Angels) and Amelia Fletcher (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research, Tender Trap, The Catenary Wires) were reunited a few months ago on the instantly sold-out first Swansea Sound cassette single, ‘Corporate Indie Band’. Soon joined by fellow musicians Rob Pursey (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, The Catenary Wires and Tender Trap) and Ian Button (Thrashing Doves, The Catenary Wires and Death in Vegas), the band dropped the second single ‘I Sold My Soul on eBay’ released as a one-off 7” (auctioned on eBay).
Up-beat, nostalgic melodies wind hollow drum beats with rhythmic tambourine shakes and low throbbing bass lines interspersed by jangly guitar strings’ flagrant rebellion around atmospheric vocal harmonies of persuasive male objections, airy female hums, and a group choral section to form a groovy rally call to arms against the corporate behemoth.
Revolutionary video, created by Rob and Amelia, captures a black and white performance and choreographed dance sequence of various “Indies of the World” with a superimposed militant green overlay of the 7” single sleeve artwork by Welsh artist Catrin Saran James, depicting peaceful protestors to form a public statement against the mass consumer commercialization at large in Modern Dystopic Society.
Swansea Sound third single “Indies of the World” is due out, as a 7″ single, on March 12 via Skep Wax (UK) / HHBTM (US) / Formosa Punk (Japan), plus on tape through the Lavender Sweep (Welsh) and Shiny Happy Records (Indonesia). On Pre-order on the band’s Bandcamp.
The single won’t be released on Spotify, Apple Music or other “corporate streaming services”.
Swansea Sound are currently working on their debut album scheduled for Autumn 2021.
