Video Of The Day SOCIAL STATION
Washington D. C. Post Punk/Dark Wave outfit Social Station is back to a three-piece formation, like their first appearance at WL//WH in 2018, now a family affair composed of the original founding member Paul Todd (guitar, Synths, back-up vocals), his son Jacob Sebastian (Vocals, Bass, Synths) and the latest addition, the daughter and sister Natalie Simona (Programming, Synths, back-up vocals).
In anticipation of a forthcoming third studio album, the band have dropped the Official Video for the first single “Pink Turns Blue”, via Young and Cold Records, showcasing Jacob Sebastian’s debut on lead vocals.
“The song was written and recorded in Ausburg, Germany, at the Young and Cold Records studio. While on a European tour, Social Station fully immersed themselves in this museum-like atmosphere to craft songs with their signature guitar and bass driven sound, taking advantage of the walls of synths and drum machines.”
Emotions sway between hope and pain over sharp glistening guitar melodies wistfully bleeding over humming, rubbery bass pulses and hypnotic skipping beats, while swathes of feint misty synths light the way for sad, anxious vocals, waiting for a loved one to return.
The visuals, shot in Lima, Peru, showcase Social Station performing “Pink Turns Blue” in a plain white apartment while wearing mostly black fashions from Vivos o Muertos (Lima, Peru). Strobe lights transform motion into an alternate dimensional atmosphere as the trio poses symbolically amid a strategic use of shadows, syncing seamlessly with the psychological aspect of the soundtrack.
