Following last end of week’s release of two singles in a row, Austin, Texas Post-Punk solo project of Dark Dark Black’s Justin Van Eck AKA SKLTN CHR (Skeleton Choir) drops an evocative DIY video for the anthemic track “Underground,” a song
about depression in the midst of dealing with a toxic back-and-forth relationship. It’s that moment in time when you feel completely beat down and stuck, and the person you’re with isn’t helping.
A gothic romance compels dire, crying guitar melodies, howling atmospheric synth swirls, droning bass oscillations, and steady heart-racing beats to carry the harsh, pain-filled seduction of baritone male vocals and ghostly breaths through the heartbroken memories of love and adoration into the blood-soaked domains of the forsaken “Underground.”
Tragically beautiful video conjures vintage, faded flowers to fall over a black and white urban ballet sequence tracing time-lapsed flutter flies, abstract imagery, and elegant poses into an evocative foreshadowing of Death. Hypnotic reflections spur ominous ripples atop shadowy silhouettes eclipsed by blown-out flames of passion, flying bats, and sunken skulls to erode the remnants of a bright life force into a decaying angel’s nocturnal slumber.
