London-based Synth Wave newcomer Silent Star drops an edgy and evocative video for his darkly enveloping debut single, “Star Of The Sea,” whilst brandishing a more numb and brutalist melancholy on the flip side “To Hell or To Hackney.”
Soothing, soaring synth swathes glow and expand into airy depth defying textures cut in rambunctious rolls and steady dance beats marching hypnotically through sparkling electronic swirls, dire, foreboding Peter Hook-like deep warbling basslines, and sneakingly dangerous wobbling low ends, whilst urgent, dramatic, and breathless layered male vocals take a dramatic journey through time to regret and hold on to the things that make him human, alternating restless and relaxed moods into the shifting tides of fear and fury.
Chiaroscuro shades enigmatic, lost perceptions of grey, black, and white from London’s urban architectures, outdoor activities, and a shadowy spectre like performance to merge past and future timelines into an awkward yet comforting beauty of Fate. Geometric forms weave cross-sectional landscapes with fluctuating visions of memories to enhance elements of lurking danger, while inky overlays pulse in anxious synchronicity with the eclectic soundtrack. A hypnotic flow of motion casts universal symbols of yesterday’s open-air daydreams through an abandoned metropolis to assault the mind’s eye with sunny skies, distant sunsets, and tranquil waters of hope to evoke isolation, alienation, and modern dystopic doom.
Silent Star will play live this Friday at London‘s Mascara Bar, check here for tickets.
