WL//WH Video Of The Day : SDH [Semiotics Department Of Heteronyms] ‘Tell Them’

Video Of The Day

I was already impressed  by the project of Barcelona‘s duo, made up of Andrea P. Latorre and Sergi Algiz under the SDH (Semiotics Department of Heteronyms) moniker since a track I listened in 2016 from the 4th volume of Cønjuntø Vacíø label compilation, and the following single with visuals, ‘‘Guilty And Gifted”, that will be also part of the forthcoming debut full length “Semiotics Department Of Heteronyms”, due out on May 25, 2018, via the visionary Italian AVANT! Records, still fresh from its 10 years old anniversary celebration.

At the time I didn’t associate the twosome to the fact they’re also the founders of the brilliant dark electronic/industrial label Cønjuntø Vacíø and part of the post-punk band Wind Atlas, SDH is their ‘poppier’ project, dark, sensual and intense synth-pop with EBM and industrial undertones, proof of a band constantly exploring and pushing boundaries of new sonic realms.

‘Tell Them’ is dense claustrophobic swirl of off-kilter synth pop, made of stripped back beats, hypnotic pulsating bass, troubled by the disturbing gloomy dissonance of mind-warping psych synth lines, and driven by the apparently detached, but utterly sensual and dangerously tempting Andrea’s vocals, leading us into an intriguing, mysterious hazy atmosphere incredibly immersive and sinister and insanely danceable at the same time.

The blurry slow pace nocturnal and shadowy DIY video is described by the band as “us walking by an industrial suburb of Barcelona where we used to have our practice space. It’s an attempt to explain the limits of a limitless body and the shape that remains once the form is gone. To know something very deeply while not knowing how to explain it because it doesn’t exist”.
