WL//WH Video Of The Day SAMT MARTIN
Formed almost by chance in 2023, Berlin-based band Samt Martin, made of Lars Goldstein (Electric Guitar), Thomas Haider (Vocals, Guitars, Percussion), Max Krüger (Bass) and Simone Secci (Drums, Percussion), delivers a familiar yet refreshingly different ‘90s-inspired Indie Rock sound on their newly released debut single, “Antennen auf Empfang,” via Grantler Records, the Munich-based home for raw and honest music.
“Antennen auf Empfang” unravels a fizzy and erratic Indie Rock style, defined by an intricate, atmospheric and twinkling guitar work, reminiscent of the mellower Midwest Emo dynamics, that moves freely, underlaid by sensitive loose drumming along with sinuously round pulsing basslines, between swaying tinny strums, whispery glistens, insistent sparkling ripples, subtly resonant chord progressions, and sparse fluid keyboard washes, lifting at the end with the rambling freeing of high-pitched, spindly piercing licks, all in twisting unison with lively, vibrant vocals, rising and falling between longing and euphoria.

To bring forth the present-time awareness sentiments of the lyrics, symbolic visuals showcase Samt Martin performing “Antennen auf Empfang” under the bright blurry lights of a nighttime circus carnival. Like a gambling casino, flashing lights, shiny objects, and game playing for prizes are around every corner. Neon overlays merge with over-exposed saturations and bug’s eye views, to bring forth the dizzying overstimulation heard at the end of the soundtrack.
Keep up with Samt Martin:
