Video Of The Day RUPESH CARTEL
Often underestimated, nevertheless with a strong core of aficionados, Rupesh Cartel, the veteran Stockholm-based, Swedish electronic pop duo, made up of Viktor Ginner and Daniel Bergdahl, has seamessly delivered, since 2005, a modern strain of Synth-Pop craftsmanship, firmly rooted in the classic 80s past.
The group are approaching the May 2 release of the new album, “Residual Light,” via Progress Productions, with a DIY video for the third excerpt and opening track, “Phantom Battles.”
“Phantom Battles”, a song about fighting shadows in order to grow, drives a flickering emotional rush of crisp shuffling beats, inching bass lines and blowing brassy, stunted synth melodies under dreamy, sad yet hopeful vocals, as cool swirling and chirping synths sprinkle light from above.
The Official Video has an indigo tint to it and switches between an indoor factory and raw outdoor scenery. Shuffled within the clip, two black-clad figures are standing in front of two lit-up skyscrapers that flash in sync with the soundtrack. There is also a recurring scene of a man sitting at a desk in a small apartment whilst looking out of the window at the strobing blue light to evoke a sense of sadness, disconnection, and Sci-Fi mystery.
Rupesh Cartel‘s upcoming new album, “Residual Light,” will be released, in Limited Edition CD & Digital formats, on May 2, 2025 . Preorder/Presave already available on Progress Productions label website.
