WL//WH Video Of The Day: ROLLER DERBY “Something True”

Video Of The Day Roller Derby

Founded in early 2020, Hamburg based, German Indie Dreampop trio Roller Derby, comprised of Philine Meyer (vocals, keys), Manuel Romero Soria (guitar) and Max Nielsen (bass), have shared a fanciful video, created by Gustavo Tissot, for the bittersweet love song, “Something True”, the new single that will be part of the band’s debut album scheduled to be released in 2022.

Confessional lyrics in both English and French explore the inner fragility, angst, and obsession one finds when head over heels in love. “I’m absolutely hopeless when it comes to you.”

Fresh and modern, with a retro dreamy and folksy twist, composes a beautiful orchestration of string arrangements into luscious swirls of warm, comforting melancholy around slow meandering bass lines, gentle guitar strums and rocking drum beats to carry the intoxicating heartfelt female vocal harmonies into a sweet yet sensual genuine desperation of heady lovelorn reflections.

The enchanting video, starring Viniele Lopes, blends universal symbols of romance, dramatic acting skills, and tons of nostalgic sentiment into a stunning and evocative stream of consciousness drenched in daydreamy Amore. Intimate camera angles capture excruciating longings whilst transition scenes captivate with a poetry reading, a candid band performance, and vibrant dainty flowers to depict the whimsical and brooding desire of yearning for a lover’s touch.
