Melbourne/Naarm, Australia-based Post-punk, New Wave and Electronic duo have dropped a DIY Official Video for “Stuff”, their third single of the year.
Songwriter and producer Louise Love (lyrics, vocals, guitar), and Luis Gutiérrez (electronics) aim, through the new 2024 collection of songs, to face mortality with a pop-tinted lens.
“Stuff” sets a retro off-kilter sort of arcade game backdrop behind Lou’s highly engaging vocal expressions, as she contemplates life and death through the eyes of a 5-year-old boy. The driver is the buzzing bass line that bounces under an array of shifting, scattered beats. Above that obsessive no-wavey, staccato and screeching guitar riffs, cold urgent synth motifs, and skewed kazoo-like blows come in aggressively at unexpected junctures. All the while, atmospheric vocals entertain with enthusiastic fascination.
The accompanied DIY visuals show Roles enjoying outdoor time in nature, creating a song, and learning how to read tarot with a skeleton wearing a black skully cap to remind us why we don’t want to die. The video is funny, even a dog joins in on the shenanigans, and it syncs perfectly with the youthful vibe of the soundtrack.
Keep up with Roles:
