WL//WH Video Of The Day: RIOUX DÉSOLÉS “Doppelgänger” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day  Rioux Désolés

Rioux Désolés,  solo project of the Les Abruzzes-based Italian musician Domenico Cipolla, drops a DIY Official Video for “Doppelgänger,” the first single since the 2024 album “The Bedroom Sessions.”

A Casio VL-1 built slab of retro synth-pop, with a bleak, unhurried yet obsessive combination of metronomic, sharp, clanging beats and chugging bass lines with sad, alienating stacked synth stabs, haunting ethereal hums, and plangent spirals, sprawling their way into slightly urgent, fearful vocals, feeling lost and alone inside the intensifying oppression of a dark identity.

The DIY Official Video takes place at symbolic locations where Rioux Désolés primarily stands, dressed in a long-sleeve white button-up shirt and tie, under the thick grey clouds. There is a sick, dull lime green hue hanging about, like what you might see when thunderstorms are forming. Shuffled throughout is the shadow of a long-fingered hand/claw that slowly creeps along a wall before becoming the chest-up silhouette of a strange, skewed person, syncing seamlessly with the distorted reality of the soundtrack.

Keep up with Rioux Désolés:
