WL//WH Video Of The Day: QUASIMÜN “Bloom”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  Quasimün

The enigmatic newcomer Shoegaze band from Melbourne, Quasimün debuts with the atmospheric and hypnotic MBV-esque “Bloom”, the first single from the forthcoming self-titled album “Quasimün”, paired with a video by Richard Giliberto.

The thickly textural “Bloom” creates reverb-doused sheets of droning mists over slow, shuffling groovy beats and sinuous percolating bass lines, while a warm, vibrant wailing swathe blooms around distant, inviting distorted vocals of sad regret. Then a shift, at 3:00 minutes, into an introspective clearing, allows dim, increasingly sharp, glistening guitar ripples to slowly unwind the tension.

Trippy, mysterious visuals by Richard Giliberto layer sentimental lyrics with strobing lights and high-contrast black-and-white imagery to sync with the soundtrack. At first, it is hard to see what is happening because of a cloudy sky overlay, but it looks like a couple of adult friends are enjoying each other’s company. Then, as if travelling backwards, two children roll down a hill laughing while words suggest time is running out.
