PORTRAYAL‘s ‘Lost Souls’ should be my track of the day, but the Shrewsbury, UK based, studio project of Rob Tranter (Guitars, Bass, Synths) and Joe Crook (Vocals, Lyrics, Guitars), have just uploaded its visuals.
Like all the band’s music, it’s difficult to categorize, channelling different sound elements from electronic, post-punk to shoegaze in a such a surprising way that surely will buffle many narrow-minded listeners, but if for you it’s all about the mood and the emotions coupled with an impressive mature songwriting, you’ll be bewitched. Largely built upon solid foundations of electronic patterns, overwhelmed by a unique flow of shimmering reverb guitars and dreamy vocals with an amazing Morrissey-like melodic hook , ‘Lost Souls’ is sonically immersive and emotionally penetrating, beautifully suspended between the past and the future, possibly one of the best song of the year.
