Started in 2020 by Lyon, France-based duo Alastrelle and Marx as the missing link between their own respective projects (Dead Souls Rising, AntiGlück, Pulp Machine, Corps de Cendres, Puppets), the 80s inspired Synth-driven Darkwave project Polarlicht have released the video clip by Fabien Duret for last March’s single “Lost Generation”, the follow-up to last year’s debut EP “Unforgotten Dreams.”
The vibrant, nostalgic and intoxicating Darkwave dance number is fueled by tight, hypnotic lashing rhythms and low clattering shakings, laced with a taut droning and wobbling bass line, and eerie fidgety synth melodies, to instil edgy and resonant moody vibes around rousing, soulful female vocals, sadly letting go of her “Lost Generation.”
A fantastic video directed by Fabien Duret symbolically shifts from black and white to rich jewel tones over a stylish performance by Polarlicht to sync with the transformative sentiments of the soundtrack. When a modern-day bob-topped Alastrelle finds a hidden treasure in the stump of an old tree trunk, she gains access to a hidden dimension where she lives out the fantasy of a dancing Egyptian queen. The story comes alive with a dramatic wardrobe, DIY editing by Marx himself, and imaginative skull-clad artwork and sculptures by Giovanni Mura.
Keep up with Polarlicht:
