WL//WH Video Of The Day PLASTIC ACT
Canadian musician Josh Herlihey, who you might know as the bassist for the Quebecois 4-piece Private Lives (Feel It Records), was born in Ottawa, grew up in Vancouver and began his solo Proto Punk/Power Pop project Plastic Act after moving to Montreal in 2023. He dropped a debut self-titled EP that same year via Brain Gum Records and now a DIY Official Video for “Everywhere I Go”, the first excerpt from the upcoming 3-track EP “Now!” springs forth. The full Vinyl 7″ will be out on January 24th via Bachelor Records.
Channeling at least as much Velvet Underground as it does the Ork Records catalogue (early Feelies, Chris Stamey/The dB’s, The Idols, Television/Richard Hell, Alex Chilton, Student Teachers amongst many others), the group blend, with straightforward, vigorous and no frills flair, timeless edgy punk urgency with snappy melodic hooks.
“Everywhere I Go” buzzes and rushes nervously on bright radiating jolts of abrasive ringing guitar riffs, fueled by zippy drums and nimble, pulsing basslines, while vibrant, nostalgic vocals deliver existential lyrics with a raw forthright effort.
The DIY visuals were filmed with a Canon Auto Zoom 814 Super 8 on Kodak 200T / 7213 stock to achieve a lo-fi 1970s aesthetic and shows Plastic Act performing “Everywhere I Go” in an empty loft apartment with a guitar player and drummer. There is a lot going on in the 2:17 clip associated with shadows, reflections, and shifting flows of motion to sync thoughtfully with the high energy of the soundtrack.
Keep up with Plastic Act:
