WL//WH Video Of The Day: PILLS FOR TOMORROW “New Joy”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  Pills For Tomorrow

Pills For Tomorrow, the Grenoble, France-based Shoegaze-drenched Psychedelic Rock five-piece formed in 2023, made of Nathalie Valion (Vocals and Author), Laurent Gouviaux (Guitar and composition), Fabrice Brenchenmacher (Guitar and Arrangements), Laurent Prost (Bass) and Augustin Garnie (Drums), drops a video for “New Joy”, the second single from the forthcoming debut 10-track album scheduled for the end of the year.

Nourished by the late-20th-century British scene, its members assert a singular identity: that of dream musicians, lucid and sincere, for whom music is not a posture, but an alternative to everyday pills — a way of inhabiting the world differently.

“New Joy” is about breaking free from society’s envy, disdain, and spite by embracing love and resisting being defined by others.

An upbeat rousing jam, retaining a motorik drumming along with snaky humming bass lines, pulses at an hypnotic pace, as it squiggles through with billowing layers of warbling guitars, both slightly discordant and intricately transcendent, reverberating with insistent sparkling vibrancy, around saturated streams of gentle, patient female vocals, encouraging untamed souls to ‘let yourself be loved.’

The paired visuals turn a Pills For Tomorrow performance of “New Joy” from a flat, monochromatic mindset into a playful, psychedelic vision. Strategic editing combines a black-and-white finish with blurry jewel tones, moving the two templates to deepen the atmosphere. A cut-out, glow-in-the-dark Cheshire Cat smile furthers the Alice in Wonderland theme by appearing, under black light flashlights, on each band member’s face.
