WL//WH Video Of The Day: PAST SELF “무당 / Mudang” (Official Music Video)

Video Of The Day  PAST SELF

Sin City-based Korean American K-Goth trio past self, made of Sung (guitar/vocals), Spektor (bass) and æther (synth), return to WL//WH with an Official Music Video by Shiloh Foster of Evelyn Scythe for the single “무당 / Mudang”, a song at the core of the forthcoming EP “Premonitions”, due out on Friday, December 13, 2024, via Spektor Recordings.

This song tells a story about a mudang, a Korean shaman, who is able to see into the future of other people and heal them, yet is unable to use this ability to help themselves. A seer who cannot see. A healer who is self sabotaging. A blind prophet descending into madness.

Alone and abandoned with a wounded heart, 무당 (Mudang), prepares for an approaching eclipse, driving both crisp and clapping hypnotic drum patterns and ominously brooding basslines under a bleeding rainfall of pain-filled glistening guitar melodies and soft dramatic synth glows, while gentle downcast vocals shift in and out of a ceremonial trance of darkness.

The Official Music Video by Shiloh Foster sets Sung, aether, & Spektor against a surreal outdoor backdrop where they hang out like ghosts under the moon’s transformative glow. An imaginative crafting of lights, shadows and overlays creates a supernatural realm around the trio while their signature outfits and silver swords bring out an ancient warrior aspect unto a symbolic red moon eclipse finale.

Keep up with Past Self:
