WL//WH Video Of The Day: PARTIKUL “Straight White Line”

Video Of The Day  PARTIKUL

Partikul, the daring Brussels-based DIY act made up of Aly (synths, vocals, drum machine) and Stef (guitars, vocals) return with a video, directed by Edouard Chandelle, for the magnetic Darkwave number “Straight White Line”, the second track off the, just released, infamously ‘difficult’ sophomore album “Having Gone”, via their own label Exit Does Not Destroy Records.

Partikul explores immersive and gripping 80s-dusted Darkwave and Post-punk territories, engrossed by vibrant and throbbing electro undercurrents, rich in intense nuances, to weave obscure and tormented soundscapes, pervaded by a sense of cold desolation and monochromatic doom.

A song about addiction, and the inversion it creates by placing a false perception of power and fullness over the actual state of emptiness and helplessness, to disconnect the afflicted behind a spectacular veil of delusion and denial.

“Straight White Line” ignites a shadowy, dangerous, convoluted nocturnal ride compulsively pulsing over a gravelly buzzing bass undertow cut in tinny lashing beats, whilst searing, excruciating, pain-filled guitar lines along with droning, swarming mists, desperately enshroud an impassioned dual male-female vocal interplay, delivering ominous baritone echoes and angsty emotional cries, with sharp and sinister shivers of toxic obsession.

An edge-of-your-seat drama directed by Edouard Chandelle captures a drug-fueled night of crime and chaos, starring Adrien Léonard, Marie-Lou Lozia, Dawid Nowak, and Partikul, to sync perfectly with the mindless impulsion of the soundtrack. One bad choice after another leads a lost soul down a self-destructive path to annihilation, where progressively heavier consequences make it seem impossible to turn around. Jittery flows of motion, warped sight editing, and on-point acting give an evocative gritty real-life vibe to the vision while a surprise time-loop ending hints at a second chance dream to lend hope and insight to the mind’s eye of endless doom

Partikul’s second LP, “Having Gone”, is out now via the band’s own label Exit Does Not Destroy Records. The Vinyl 12″ format is available on request here: [email protected]
