WL//WH Video Of The Day: NULLSIGN “Phantom Pain” (Official Video)

WL//WH Video Of The Day   NULLSIGN

Nullsign, the Toledo, Ohio-based newcomer Shoegaze duo of Wesley Bandy and Alex Spitulski, drops a sun-bleached Official Video by Landon Tavernier for “Phantom Pain”, the fifth track on the band’s debut EPSensory.”

Five immersive dynamic tracks that lift and wash over the listeners with blissful ethereal blasts of early 90s Shoegaze sonics, laced with eruptive rhythms, whining plangent grooves and ghostly somber melodies seeping through a noisy wall-of-sound racket.

About when a person loses touch with his heart, the other senses in his body start to die, “Phantom Pain” sparks off vigorous plodding drums that crash and stumble into heavily distorted spectral banks of dim guitar mists, etched by wailing obsessive ringing strains, to massively shake over feint sullen vocals, falling, with long drawn-out breaths of fearful pain, through the dull gloom and glimpses of radiating hope from the lost connection.

The Official Video directed by Landon Tavernier stars Elijah Rashad Reed as a dishevelled man who is mad and suffering at the hands of a crisis of Faith. The symbolic vision blends a blurry white filter with spinning camera work and demonic imagery to manifest the misleading disorientation going on inside the man’s heart. Then, moments of clarity start to stream through in the form of black-and-white perception and, after a scream for help, a light at the end of the tunnel appears. Finally, after being tempted to go around the hurdle, he goes through it, with a hand outstretched, toward the bright illumination on the horizon.
