In November 2016 Brussels, Belgium-based WAVES radio show hosts Fernando Wax and Phil Blackmarquis, began selecting exclusive and unreleased gems from favourite bands and artists in the Wave /Post Punk /Synth /Electro/Ambient styles presented in the form of “My Precious! – A Waves Radio Show Compilation” series via their freshly formed DIY records label Red Maze Records.
Following the success of the four previous editions, the WAVES Radio Show is proud to present its fifth compilation, to be released, in limited 12″ Vinyl & Digital formats, on December 15, 2024, as usual through Red Maze Records.
One of the early foretastes, although not previously unreleased, titled “Call”, comes from the Montreal based Minimal Wave/ Post Punk solo project of Antonio Pavao Pereira under his NO moniker, accompanied by a video clip by Cristián Herrera,
Exploring the heartache involved in a push-and-pull relationship, the track edgily rolls on clattering, urgent rhythmic patterns, dark flickering bass lines, a mercurial emotive swirl of whimpering synth swathes, and buzzing glowing swells, surrounding wistful, haunted vocals, brooding with feelings of shame and rejection caused by being on “Call” for a loved one.
Symbolic visuals by Cristián Herrera showcase a stylish black leather-clad androgyne with a somber, slightly angry expression on her face, walking the city streets at twilight, to sync with the frustrating emotions of the soundtrack.
The Various Artists compilation, “My Precious! – A Waves Radio Show Compilation Vol.5,” will be dropped, in limited 12″ Vinyl & Digital formats, on December 15, 2024, via Red Maze Records.
