Monöchrome, the Lima, Peru-based dark electronic duo made of Nara Arevalo (vocals, lyrics) and Khrome Hitam (synthesizers, programming), returns to WL//WH with a lyric video by Hitam Laga for “P.A.I.N”, the final single before an upcoming album.
“P.A.I.N” builds a chilly, dark lonely mood, fueled by a rumbling jittery bassline to ominously wabble along restless thumping dance beats, whilst jagged buzzing strains slowly expand then strike with ferocious intensity around sad, anxious vocals, twisting into soft aching moans before a confession of haunting spoken words, reveals the origin of pain to be echoes, shadows, and a recurring fall.
‘The lyric video unfolds inside an underground techno space where bodies move in the dark, strobes cut through smoke, rhythm moves over emotion, and pain reduces to pulse.’ A windowless basement dance club scene with the lyrics for “P.A.I.N” printed on top flickers in sync with the soundtrack.
