Formed in 2020, Monochrome Lover, the Dark Dream Pop trio from Houston, Texas made of Daniel Gaona (Guitars/Pedal Steel), Shay Rodriguez (Synth/Drums), and Taylor Rodriguez (Vocals), returns with the visuals for their latest single “Lover”, released last July 2024, hopefully the heralding of something new soon.
“Lover” is a slow, lush and emotional whirlwind of smooth percussive grooves, humming bass throbs, glittery chorus-drenched guitar riffs, and warm twangy pedal steel melancholy, to immerse the love and devotion from gentle spoken words and breathless euphoric longing in a cozy, vibrant, and mesmerising sensation.
An imaginative and heart-warming Official Music Video shows Monochrome Lover rehearsing and hanging out in Houston, Texas, under layers of surreal neon-tinted imagery while the lyrics to “Lover” sync seamlessly with the soundtrack. The prismatic psychedelic overlay appears to be made of shapeshifting animations and shadowy negative light reflections, and if you look closely, you will see Daniel Gaona playing the pedal steel, which brought a fascinating romantic nostalgia to the song.
