Video Of The Day MARKUS MIDNIGHT
Edmonton, Alberta-based 80s-inflected analog Dark Electro-Wave one-man project Markus Midnight started in 2009, albeit only in 2018 was finally able, through the collaboration with the Brazilian label Wave Records, to release his long-awaited first album “Fifteen Midnight Rituals”, a collection of 15 songs, scattered on Soundcloud and MySpace, originally written between 2009 and 2017.
Markus Midnight dropped a couple of days ago an unexpected second full-length LP, “Night Work”, almost in sync with the music video for the opening track “Northern Heat”, already released as a one-off single in 2022.
A vibrant, dazzling, pulsing Italo-tinged Synth-Pop affair, “Northern Heat”, urgently bounces through relentless punchy snares, offset by fast-rolling rimshot patterns, and sneaky syncopated rubbery bass lines, wrapped by a dizzy, swirling synth tapestry of arpeggiated angsty icy bright melodies, glaring sparkly flashes and blazing blinding soaring bursts, to entice alluring baritone broods with infinite visions of unattainable desire.
Symbolic, outdoor visuals, shot and edited by Ana Klahr with the assistance of Philip Traikovski, capture an interpretive performance by Markus Midnight under an endless expanse of grey cloudy skies. Urban, Industrial skeletal decay sets a dramatic backdrop for sweeping camerawork, suggestive poses, and jagged flows of disconnected motion to sync seamlessly with the dire dystopic desperation of the 80s-influenced lyrical soundtrack.
Markus Midnight‘s self-released second LP, “Night Work”, is out now in Ltd. Vinyl 12″ & Digital formats via the artist’s Bandcamp.
