Video Of The Day LSSNS
The Helsinki/Leipzig music partnership originated from a chance meeting in Berlin between the Finnish brothers and film composers Samu and Ville Kuukka (of the acclaimed Post-Rock band The Gentleman Losers) and the German musical allrounder Patrick Sudarski, who embarked on a Dark Electronic Pop venture called Lessons with which they will release a debut EP, “Tempest”, in 2016, soon followed a year later with a remix version featuring renowned collaborations such as house/techno producers Adam Port (Keinemusik) and Magdalena (Diynamic).
Now the trio, is back, after a long hiatus, under the new moniker LSSNS, with the first single/video, “Gemini”, to announce their debut album “Transit”, scheduled for release on October 13, 2023 via the Berlin‘s label Sinbuss.
Recalling the most sophisticated, atmospheric and groovy bass-driven Wave/Synth-Pop from the ’80s, with hints of Japan’s “Quiet Life” period along a smooth vocal brood likewise Ian Curtis, “Gemini” immerses the listener in a mysterious misty dreamy aura built by urgent crashing snares, jerky rubbery bass oscillations, intoxicating sparkling guitar strains, chilly sad brittle synth melodies, to wind soft emotional vocals, trying to find balance, in a detached busy shadow of transformative introspection.
Symbolic visuals, shot on a vintage Video8 camera in Helsinki by Samu Kuukka, capture the lively urban center through a grainy lens of multidimensional perception. Negative light and heat-seeking effects distort space and time around suggestive city dwellers and architectures to extract extra-sensory frequencies in sync with the dynamic thought forms of the soundtrack.
