The dynamic Strasbourg‘s Coldwave darlings Lovataraxx, namely Hélène and Julien Lovataraxx, are once again our welcome guests to the blog with a DIY video for the track “Medicine”, shot on location in the Abruzzo (Italy) area, devastated, on the night between 5 and 6 April 2009, by a telluric shock measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale, that hit the capital L’Aquila and its surroundings.
Close to the mountain zones, with a rigid climate, still in the rubble with ghost villages and families who continue to live in makeshift prefabs, a situation that the government over the years, however left-wing or right-wing it may be, the result does not change, due to lack of funds, albeit, oddly, money for weapons is always available, bureaucracy or a thousand other excuses cannot be solved.
Possibly the most curious, nervously intoxicating, and off-kilter track from the band’s 2o20 album “HÉBÉPHRÉNIE, “Medicine” throbs with slapping and clicking Suicide-esque rockabilly vibes, concocting the dread and delirium of a confused mind by blending haunted, dreary vocal angst with urgent drum beats, a snaky wander of groovy pulsing, rubbery bassline, spooky glistening guitar obsessions, and shivering eerie synth strains, triggering the stimulating yet surreal headspace of a paranoid episode.
Filmed in L’Aquila, Italy in the summer of 2020 at the former Psychiatric Hospital of Collemaggio, directed and produced by Lovataraxx, Teufty and Tanguy Guezo, the immersive and thought-provoking video injects dark humor and on-point Gothic weirdness by Lovataraxx themselves into fear-inducing hospital imagery to sync with the dystopic moods of the soundtrack. Macabre computer-generated embellishments, nightmarish camera angles, and symbolic colors create a disturbing series of hallucinatory events for a hopeless mental patient, causing a desperate attempt at escape into the beautiful country estate woods.
Keep up with Lovataraxx:
