Armed with her guitar and looper, Lila deploys electric soundscapes where darkness dances with a red light, on a wet concrete background.
The Parisian DIY “Froide Wave” one-girl band Lila Ehjä drops an Official Video created by Lila herself and Thomas Leloup for “Rust”, the fifth track on last January’s first full-length LP, “Clivota”, rife with an all-consuming, crepuscular and bewitching Goth-clad Darkwave, streaked with gritty Industrial clangour and reverberant distorted Shoegaze textures, on the backdrop of agonizing reflective atmospherics and eerie dreary darkness in which the haunted spectral vocals, soaked in lyrical poetic introspection, overlap with dry obsessive drum machine beats, moody bass pulses, and harsh metallic-toned guitars, exploring the misty and glacial abyssal realms of a tortured soul, teetering between gloomy oneiric torment and cathartic jolts of grinding pain-filled noise.
A hymn to misanthropy, “Rust” plumbs the punching depths of jagged buzzing bass lines and stumbling hypnotic percussions through a barren space of dim icy metallic stained melodies, eerie rippling synth slivers, to suddenly surge with dramatic harsh radiating guitar swells laced with high-end tearing, weeping echoes atop evocative vocals, shifting between numb alienation, ghostly cries, and restless angsty pain, falling into a vibrant emergence of powerful light.
The ‘Body Horror Movie’ visuals by Lila Ehjä and Thomas Leloup shuffle a provocative performance by Ehja with a dramatic dance interpretation by Urferaqua’s (Yaxuan Li). Urferaqua looks like a tortured and broken ballerina wearing a Gothic black gown to evoke a sense of tragedy, dehumanization, and a struggle to survive at the hands of merciless violence. Strange camera angles combine with an imaginative use of negative lighting, blood effects, and symbolic wardrobe to bring forth a deeply disturbing vision, just in time for Halloween.
Lila Ehjä‘s debut studio album, “Clivota”, is out now, on Vinyl 12″ & digital, via CROUX Records & Toutdoux Records.
